There was this one time when I had trouble entering a country due to a medication mix-up. I had been taking a prescription medication and had messaged the agency in charge of travelers and drugs. They assured me that the amount I was bringing and the medication itself were minor enough that I didn't need to fill out any forms. However, there was a problem when I got off the plane.
I had picked up the medication from the pharmacy, but they had given me a 90-day supply instead of the 30-day supply I was expecting. I only discovered this while in the air. I decided to explain the situation at the immigration checkpoint.
When I explained, they seemed confused and didn't have a procedure for this kind of situation. They took me down to another agent, and I believe they sent a bunch of messages to the agency asking about it. It was late at night, so it felt like I was causing a lot of trouble. I wasn't sure if I'd have to turn around and go back.
Eventually, they let me in and said it was fine. I tried apologizing, though I don't know how much got across the language barrier. I feel like I have to double-check everything before I travel now. However, I'm not sure if that actually helps or just makes me more anxious.
