Back in the day, I used to commute between San Jose and San Francisco once a week. It was usually a pretty relaxing train voyage. I'd bring my laptop, work while looking out the window, and listen to music. I used to joke at the time that the Caltrain was my girlfriend. I was lonely.
One day, while heading back from the office, I found a line two hundred people deep at the SF station. Obviously, it was some kind of sports season thing, but I was new to taking the train and hadn't seen one of the sports days before. I just barely managed to squeeze myself onto the train. There was no room in any of the seats; people were standing in the aisles, and it wasn't possible to move.
The train was doing every stop all the way down the bay, and this was before the upgrades, so everyone was jolted around by the starts and stops every couple of minutes. Then it transpired a few stops out that there had been some kind of fire at one of the stations, and the train was held up. We sat there for 30 minutes, 40 minutes, 50 minutes. Nothing was going anywhere.
And then someone started passing out drugs, lmao. Honestly, that's all I remember. We eventually got started again, and I made it back down to San Jose a few hours late. I'm glad I don't live there anymore. :D
